RINA Services is the operative company of RINA in charge of Testing, Inspection and Certification activities. It is founder member of IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) and EURACS (European Association of Classification Societies).
With 160 offices, RINA is operating in 60 different countries and has a staff of about 3000 persons, 64% of who’s with university degree. RINA is involved in RTD activities in the fields of ship design, ship safety, hydrodynamics, structural analysis, materials, fire protection, risk analysis, human factor, information technology, transport and logistic, infrastructures, health, environment and food. 10% of RINA turnover is invested in co‐operative projects, as of today RINA is co‐operating in RTD with more than 40 organizations worldwide.
Relevant skills
RINA is one of the oldest classification societies since it was established in 1861. The ongoing tasks of RINA, due to its historical know‐how, concern Classification and Statutory Services, Certification of material and equipment, Marine Technical Advisory Services and Marine Product and Personnel Certification.
RINA, through the research and development team consisting of expertise and qualified personnel, has been active in research programs funded by both the European Community and national institutions as well as in internal research projects. RINA has great experience as coordinator and as partner in research projects.
RINA has promoted the ROBINS project to cope with the increasing market demand for new technologies and relevant updated regulations in the field of ship inspection. The interest in this specific application of robotics technology is also witnessed by the activities currently in progress in IACS and IMO concerning remote inspection techniques.
Role in the project and main tasks
RINA Services is the Coordinator of the project and it is leader of WP8 and WP11. In addition, RINA Services participates in WP1, WP2, WP6, WP7, WP9, WP10 contributing in testing, development, measurements, regulation development as well as dissemination and exploitation activities.
